Refractivity of a Standard Atmosphere

چکیده
stronomical observations near the horizon have historically been made for naval navigation and for determining the time of sunset. Recent applications include near-horizon daytime scene simulation to support infrared search and track and infrared seeker studies. The ray path of the setting or rising Sun can be highly distorted near the horizon, and it is seldom rectilinear. An accurate model of atmospheric refraction must include the observer’s altitude as well as range, frequency, and atmospheric pressure and temperature. At infrared through ultraviolet frequencies, refractivity depends strongly on the vertical temperature profile, and an explicit relationship between refractivity and temperature can be obtained. This article describes a refraction model we developed that closely reproduces the profile of the setting Sun. A Astronomical Refraction

Refractivity estimation from sea clutter: An invited review
[1] Non‐standard radio wave propagation in the atmosphere is caused by anomalous changes of the atmospheric refractivity index. In recent years, refractivity from clutter (RFC) has been an active field of research to complement traditional ways of measuring the refractivity profile in maritime environments which rely on direct sensing of the environmental parameters. Higher temporal and spatial...

Knowledge of the refractivity index in the lower atmosphere is very important in the design, transmission and performance analysis of line-of-sight (LOS) terrestrial links. In oceanic environments, radio wave propagation is affected by the high variability with space and time of the meteorological parameters. Radiosonde data have been used in the analysis of the effect of climatic conditions in...
متن کاملJ 4 , 9 A Generalized Inversion Scheme Inside or for GPS
Radio occultation measurements using the Global Positioning System (GPS) and a receiver in low-Earth orbit (LEO) have recently been shown to provide accurate profiles of atmospheric refractivity, pressure, water vapor and temperature with high vertical resolution [e.g. Kursinski et al., 1996]. When a GPS transmitter and receiver pair are on opposite sides of the atmosphere, the radio signal pro...

Fine structures in the vertical gradient of the electron density have been retrieved by means of analysis of the amplitude of radio occultation (RO) data in sporadic E-layers (heights interval 85-110 km). Maximum values of the positive gradients 45⋅10, 48⋅10, 25⋅10, 29⋅10 [mkm] are located at levels 92, 105 km (GPS/MET event 0393) and 93.5, 100 km (GPS/MET event 0583). Variations in the vertica...

High accuracy of impact height is important to get reliable Radio Occultation (RO) measurements of the atmosphere refractivity. We have made an investigation on how accurately we can measure the impact height at ground level using wave optics simulations, realistic refractivity profiles, a realistic simulator for an advanced RO instrument including noise, and using phase matching for the invers...
